My computer wasn’t designed from the ground up. I just added the 6502 microprocessor and 4K DRAMS (introduced that summer of 1975 and far less costly than Intel static RAMs) to have a complete computer with input and output.
That makes an "as-is" purchase risky for people who don't have the technical background to repair or recondition a vintage PC.

Original "rubber key" Spectrums fetch the highest prices on the second-hand market, with the later Amstrad-built models attracting less of a following. The earlier ZX81 is derece bey popular in original hardware form due to its monochrome display and limited abilities next to the Spectrum, but still unassembled ZX81 kits still appear on eBay occasionally.
So, at least with eBay, you have that extra layer of protection in case something goes wrong. But no money-back guarantee will bring back a priceless piece of computing history once it's broken, so urge the seller to take great care in packing and shipping it to begin with.
